The mosque was built in 1438, but there are references to the temple at Sultan archives from 1435. This is a completely wooden building. It was built without using a single nail.
According to a Muslim legend, the temple was built by 7 girls whose favorites had not returned from war. They sold their entire dowry to purchase materials and built the mosque in one night. They were never seen agan. It is believed that this happened on May 6th and now every year on this day people all over the region come to the courtyard of the mosque and read Mawlid, Koran and prayers. Guests are offered a pilaf. Ancient cuts and grooves can be seen in the rocks around. Local people claim that these are the traces left by the huge wooden logs used for the construction of the mosque.
According to another legend, during the Balkan War in 1912, the village was burned down by the enemy and the people hid in the mosque. The commander had just ordered the burning of the mosque as well when turkeys appeared and began to extinguish the fire. They tried several times to ignite fire but without success and finally gave up. The commander who had ordered the arson could no longer speak after the incident.
The mosque is functional. In 2009, it was reconstructed but again without the use of nails.
