The name comes from Turkish "damla - drop". In the picturesque area of a deciduous forest, water springs down a high mountain crown. There are several spouts at the foot of the rock. There is a belief that at midnight on, May 6th the water acquires miraculous power and cures various diseases. There are legends about the healing qualities of the running water. These properties, however, occur only on the night before St. George’s Day, which is on May 6th.
Among the Muslims, the holiday is known as Hadarlez ("hadar" - green, "Les" - from Iliaz). On May 5th , believers flock to spend the night on Dambala. There are two springs in the area. A drinking water fountain was later built close to them.
The dripping water and the reason for its miraculous properties among the local people in the region is explained by the following story: Healing Water is the creation of Alevi saints Kirklareli (the forty men), which were spirits, invisible to the sinners and visible to the righteous. These were the spiritual leaders who came to this land of Khorasan, possessing divine power, and doing only good. Gathered on the rocky plateau above the rock massif, each brought with him divine food (dates, grapes, citrus Indihar etc..). They sat on the table Kaya (stone table) and ate, but there was no water to quench their thirst. Then Yaran baba showed heavenly gifts by punching the rock and making water gush.
The water splashed across the valley and the nearby village Letovnik (Yazla). Yaran baba got startled because the village could drown. He grabbed sulfur wool and blocked the source. "It will not run but let it leak at least, ..." he uttered. So to this day the water flows down the steep cliffs. Created by saints, the water has a life-giving, regenerating and healthy power. Near the spring is Yaran Baba’s tomb, which is maintained and worshiped today by the Alevi population in the area.
Ritual washing for health with the precious water, is the following:
It is a good idea to spend the night on May 5th in the open area around the fountain (in a great deciduous forest). The eyes, ears, head, chest, arms, legs are successively washed at midnight. The ritual rinsing takes place three times while the following words are uttered (or another with similar content): May the pain stay here, let there be health for me and all my friends and relations...
A coin is left in the fountain bed and a piece of clothing is left on the branches of neighboring trees. At sunrise, the place must be left. You can take water for the other people or animals in your home and, if necessary, they are given a sip of it.The water is really nice and stays clean, clear and tasty for a long time to be effective, it is recommended to visit the place and perform the ritual in three successive years.
