The Ivaylovgrad Dam

ith its 36 km length the Ivaylovgrad dam is the longest dam in Bulgaria. It was built in 1964 and has 64 km of river banks line, much of which is covered with thick deciduous forests.The dam attracts many lovers of nature, water sports and, of course – rod-loving fishermen. With the opening of the summer fishing season the best - accessible areas around the dam turn into small campingsites and camps for short stay. One can say about the Ivaylovgrad dam that fishing can continue throughout the whole year due to the moderate, almost Mediterranean climate. Fishermen come here for catfish, carp, whitefish, perch, chub, rudd, bleak, even eels and other freshwater fish. The greatest attractions at the Ivaylovgrad dam is fishing for catfish and carp from the shore or by boat. Fishing for other types of freshwater fish is also an unforgettable experience, especially during spring season when all the fish comes in the shallow areas to seek food. The most appropriate destinations for fishing are the villages of Borislavtsi, Malki Voden, Dabovets,and Senoklas.
