Monument to slain volunteers and ossuary - Krumovgrad

The monument was erected in memory of those who were killed in a battle with the Turkish cavalrymen in 1913. .It is the figure of a soldier with an overcoat and a hat, standing with a rifle and a knife. The figure is made of cement and has a height of 2.20 meters. The pedestal is made of marble and is 2.20 m high. The authors have remained unknown. The monument was constructed in 1927.It was moved in 1979 and a new pedestal was designed by architect Kasnakov. There is an inscription that says: "Eternal gratitude to the Bulgarian soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of the motherland”.
Next to the monument there is an ossuary which is 2 m long and 0.80 m high. It is made of marble slabs. Its designer is architect Kasnakov from Kardzhali.The contractor is Mladen Georgiev Kuzmanov – a civil engineer. The marble slabs are labeled by Atanas Atanasov Krastev.The ossuary was officially opened on September, 23rd 1979 year.
Krumovgrad City is liberated during the Macedonian-Adrianople riot that took place on November, 8th 1912. The Revolutioaries Battalion was housed in the old Turkish barracks. Battalion commander was Colonel Domuschiev. At the end of June, 1913, after announcing the Second Balkan War, when the Bulgarian army was on the Serbian border, a cavalryman killed the mayor and destroyed the local garrison.
