Thracian fortress Ivantsi

The fortress is situated on a high rocky peak - Isakla Tepesi or Isakov peak. It is believd to be a sacred peak on which there used to be a church and a tomb of a noble priest. The hill looks like a truncated cone with steep, almost vertical rocky slopes to the south. The other slopes are gentle. The upper surface area is 5000 square meters. Remnants of a wall, that has been destroyed in several places, are visible from east, west and north.
The wall of the fortress follows the pattern of the rocky terrain. It was built directly on the rock and followed the natural slope of the hill. The Thracian fortress was built in the 7th - 1st century BC. But, judging by the primitive construction of the fortress wall, guns, weapons and pottery typical of the Thracian settlements and fortresses, it could have well existed as early as the early Iron Age (10th –9th BC.)
In 1977, 25 meters of the wall were excavated. It is semicircular and protruded in the middle. It was built of rough stones cemented with Kalov solution. It is about 2 meters thick.
