lieva Niva area is located in the outskirts of the village of Glumovo, Ivaylovgrad Municipality. At this place on 03.10.1913, during the Balkan War, the Turkish army kills over 200 babies and children, hidden on the south bank of the River of Arda. These were the children of the Bulgarians fleeing while the Turkish army pursuing them.
In 1996 at the site was erected a memorial to commemorate the slaughter of more than 40,000 Bulgarian refugees and their children. The memorial consists of a monument, a fountain and a chapel named "St. Petka Bulgarska". It is very widely visited every year on June 1st - The Childrens Day. Then is held the festival "Thracian National Youth Festival - Day of the Thracian child".
The fest is one of the most important events in the region and attracts many visitors and locals. The events begin with a memorial prayer for the souls of the slain children, and then its continue with fun, contests and competitions and there are many songs and dances.
