Marides was a genuine Thracian tribe with a rich folk culture. Their customs were similar to those of their distant ancestors of ancient Thracians. In northern Evros, in the valley of Erythropotamos, near Didymoteicho there are 13 villages of the Marides tribe. Proud of their ancestry, the Marides tribe still maintain elements of their tradition. At the thirteen villages of Marides operate cultural associations and all together founded, in 2002, Union of Associations of Marides, which role is purely to coordinate the clubs and to promote issues that have to do with tradition, dance, music, costumes, and their customs in general. The Union was formally established in 2002, while the first efforts begun in 2000 by making a reunion between the clubs of the 13 villages. The Marides Feast is hosted every summer in early August and it is organized in a different village each year, whose association, in cooperation with the municipalities, are in charge of its organization. The purpose of these meetings is the renewal of the family relations and the strengthening of the relations between the members of the tribe as well as the revival of the musical and dance tradition and customs of the tribe.
