Gorubso Park was built more than sixty or even seventy years ago, when Kardzhali was still a small town. The park was located at the end of the city and its main purpose was to be a green belt between the Gorubso factory and the residential area. With the expansion of the city, it shifted towards its center. It is now next to the Cultural Center, and among administrative and residential buildings.
The park has diverse vegetation that includes old trees and a variety of conifers. There are wide park alleys. The silk tree, which is rare for the region, grows in the park. There are also sycamore trees, birches, willows, common spruce, persimmon, redwood. The exotic Lyre tree is near the fountain in the garden in front of the Cultural Center, with which the park reaches nearly 100 acres.
In the center of the park there is a pond with water lilies and a bridge over it. There is also a beautiful rock garden. The park is a favorite spot for leisure activities and entertainment for Kardzhali citizens. It is a quiet place for rest for people of all ages. It also has several cafes for those who like to have their cup of coffee close to the peace and quiet of nature.
The rose garden is the place for young people. If this garden could talk, it would tell many love stories. Little kids can slide, swing and climb in the playgrounds designed especially for them. Two drinking water fountains are available to quench the thirst of the visitors all year round. There is a romantic little cafe and a restaurant close to the park.
In 2003, the sculpture “The Kiss” by Emil Penchev was set up. It depicts the marble figures of a boy and a girl kissing. The sculpture is placed in the rose garden next to the Youth Center - a place with a special energy charge because it has preserved the mystery of the first touch and first kiss of several generations in Kardzhali.
