
The National Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium (NAOP) Giordano Bruno is located in park "Nikola Vaptsarov" in town of Dimitrovgrad. The site is designed by Arch. Milko Mialonov and was officially opened on 24 May 1962. This is the first planetarium in Bulgaria. The complex occupies an area of 8000 m2 and has three main buildings and two auxiliary halls (total 404 m2). The Observatory is equipped with two telescopes 150/2250 Meniscan, used for monitoring and photos of the sun and celestial objects, a planetary camera, an astro camera, cameras and various lenses, binoculars, 2 academic offices, a library. The Planetarium has a "Star hall" which is 8 meters in diameter and a capacity of 60 persons (45 sitting places). The hall is equipped with projectors and a dome-like screen where starry sky is displayed. It displays about 5000 stars, the sun, the moon, the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, the coordinate systems, the processes of Earth`s axis, the movement of celestial objects and others.
