Broken Mountain near the village of Vodenicharsko

An interesting geological phenomenon formed in the late 19th century. It is a high, cut through the middle hill, located left of the road to Vodenicharsko village, shortly before the "Chamlak" reserve. The left part of the hill has broken away and sunk down. The difference in the height is 80 m. The “breaking apart” was a result of a tectonic upheaval. This is a kind of a huge landslide, activated as a result of unprecedented rainfall. The hill is composed of very cracked rocks (perlite and rhyolite), below whcih there is water-resistent malm and clay, which crumble easily. And so they did, under the weight of the water, causing the upper rock layers to slide toward a nearby creek causing the mountain to break apart. The shift was accompanied with a loud pop and fiery glowing, the memory of which is passed through stories from generation to generation in the nearby villages. The fire resulted from the high temperature during the strong friction of the layers.
Locals say that this happened in 1900. At midnight, while there was a strom outside, a thunder shook the people from Kazatsite village, located near the mountain. As a result of the displacement of the layers, part of the village ended up at the top of the mountain.
