Church of "The Assumption" in village of Pokrovan was built in 1820 as Episcopal cathedral church. This is the most impressive religious building in the municipality. It represents one-nave basilica with splendid interiors and rich decorations.
One of the most valuables artistic elements are the flat-carved iconostasis with 52 icons (the kings icons there are from the period 1872/76), the skillful made bishop`s throne and the pulpit with 7 icons and fine plaster sculptures, the rich ornamented capitals of the columns, connected by arches beautifully painted in Vazrojdenski style (Bulgarian Renaissance). The floor and the column foundations are made of marble and this adding additional magnificence of the temple. Murals are relatively scarce and occupied the central vault only.
The Church of "Assumption" in Pokrovan was declared an architectural monument of local importance.
