Game breeding station "Studen Kladenets"

A game breeding station occupies an area of 5186 ha among most beautiful landscapes in the region where the Nanovitsa River flows into the dam. It was opened in 1957.The first afforestation in the area took place after the construction of the dam.The main purpose was to breed and spread the habitat of quail and partridge. In 1960, fallow deers were spread, as of today their number is over 1000.They coexist with wild pigs, deer, rabbits, quail and more. In 1976, 1977 and 1978 mouflons were introduced. "Studen Kladenets" game station mainly deals with conducting organized hunting, breeding and spreading deer and mouflon. Within the Game station territory is the "Kaya Fist" rock massif, where the griffon,the black and Egyptian vulture, and the imperial eagle nest.They are all protected throughout Europe. 219 bird species, 59 of which are in the Bulgarian Red List and 69 are listed as protected by "Natura 2000" , which is the centrepiece of EU nature & biodiversity policy.
The Game Station has a lodge on the shore of the dam and is a favorite place for recreation, hunting and fishing. The hunting events are held at about 35-40% of the area of the place.
