One version is that the word comes from the Saxon word “samakovi”, as the Saxons metallurgists named the heavy mechanical hammers powered by hydropower in their laboratories. In the second version, it is advocated that the word comes from the Bulgarian word Samos - Kovac which means “only - blacksmith “and in the third from the words Samos - cob, which is the root of the verb forge. In any case the name is related to mining activities, common to all Balkan Samakov.
