Makri is a charming tourist resort. It has been inhabited since the ancient times and part of the settlement still retains its quaint, traditional character, while there are also the ruins of the Byzantine forts. The settlement is crosseed by a stream, which powered 12 mills in the 17th century. The road that descends from the square, passes near the ruins of an ancient Byzantine church, where in this place, today is the church of Saint Anastasia, built in 1834. The road leads to the small quaint port of Makri.
