Didymoteicho is a town in Western Thrace and capital of the homonymous province of Evros. It is located 85 km away from Alexandroupoli and 2 km away from the Greek borders with Turkey. In Didymoteicho flows through a tributary of the Evros, Erythropotamos. It was built on the ancient Plotinoupolis, which played an important role in the period of the Byzantine Empire. The cultural identity of Didymoteicho is composed by museums, natural beauty and historical monuments, such as the well-preserved castle of Kale, the mosque of Bayezid A and the Turkish baths.
