The burial mound of Thirea islocated in the 8th kilometer of national road of Didymoteicho - Orestiada between Thireas and Asimenio villages. This is one of the largest mounds in the northern Evros with diameter of 47.5 meters and a height of 10 meters. During excavations was revealed the skeleton of a horse and various parts of the harness. Next to the horse a bronze vessel, an iron sword, two iron spearheads and a bronze shield were found, even traces of the wood of the shield on which restedwas were also distingushed. Just alittle bit south of the above items pits were identified, with prehistoric pottery and tools. Archaeologists found remnants of the burning of a man and a woman. The excavations are not completed.
