The protected area is 84.79 ha. Old bed covers Maritsa River, which is cut off from the river in the 50s with the construction of a dike. The protected area includes several ponds of varying size and depth, and rush plantations, islands and pastures. It is the largest natural wetland in the basin of the Maritsa River.Shallow parts of the river basin in the "Gold Field" are covered with rush and reed. A few years ago in the protected area was transferred white water lily /included in the Red Book/.There are15 species of fish.Typical are carp, roach, pike and eel."Gold Field" is the characteristic of feathered creatures, mostly waterfowl species. In the protected area can be seen: the little Grebe, Moorhen, little bittern, kingfishers and many others. For many "Gold Field" is an important place for wintering and resting during migration. So here in the winter are registered to stay up to 2000 copies of the endangered Pygmy Cormorant and this determines PS as Ramsar sites
