Chernoochene is the entrance to the Rhodopes. This area has been inhabited since the Stone-Copper Age (3500 B.C.). Many megalithic monuments related to the civilization of the Thracians have been found here - rock niches, rock tombs and sharapans (medieval fortress near Gradishte, Parmak Kaya - Thracian religious complex etc.). The area has significant ancient culture and centuries of coexistence of ethnicities and religions.
