Monument of Khan Krum and Mother Bulgaria monument - Krumovgrad

Han Krum Memorial was built to honour the 1300th anniversary of the Bulgarian state. It contains the statue of Krum on a horseback. The figure is 4 metres high and it is placed on a granite pedestal with a height of 1.50 metres.Its sculptor is Peter Ivanov Dimitrov from Sofia. It was opened to the public on May, 24th ,1981 .The inscription reads: "In honor of the Bulgarian State, 1300 years after it was founded".
Until 1934, the name of Krumovgrad was Kossuth Cavaco .This stemmed from the so called kushii or horse races that took place there. Then the city got the name of the medieval Bulgarian King Krum, who ascended to the throne after Kardam. During his reign, Bulgaria strengthened its position in the Balkans and in Europe, thanks to numerous victories on the battlefield. Krum began to incorporate the Slavs in the political power. He passed the first universal laws in the First Bulgarian Empire and began an administrative reform.
The Mother Bulgaria monument is a statue of a woman in full length, wearing a traditional costume. It is a white stone statue placed on a white stone pedestal. The height of the monument is 3 meters. Its sculptor is Petar Ivanov Dimitrov from Sofia. It was opened to the publc on August, 25th, 1977.
