The mosque is the oldest dated mosque in the Eastern Rhodopes. On the left corner of the south wall there is a large well-shaped stone dated back to 1201 according to the Hijri calendar. Brought to our chronology, it corresponds to the years 1786 - 1787 .
The mosque was built by a sheperd family from Kouynollar, who founded the eponymous neighborhood. The mosque has the same name - Koyunollar dzhamisi.People know it is as "Ahat buba dzhamisi " which comes from the name of the Muslim saint whose turbe (tomb)is adjacent to the mosque.
The mosque was built of stone and wood and has a north-south orientation. It has a rectangular layout. The inner space is divided into two levels. The balcony is raised on wooden pillars and surrounded by wooden railings. The balcony grid is made of thin laths. The roof is karatavan type, which means made of beams, planks and Turkish roof tiles. The wooden columns of the mosque are highly impressive.
The capitals of the columns and their trunks are beautifully shaped with shallow wood-carving with geometric motifs - two attached to the vertices in the triangle, bordered by small carved items. The tops of the columns are slightly carved and their trunks have occasional horizontal incisions - double and triple lines. The porch of the mosque is open and arranged in columns, carved in the likeness of the columns inside the house. The outer corners of the building are built of shapely stones, which are decorated with relief motifs - stars and crescent moons, rosettes and triangles.
West of the mosque building is located the building referred to as the odaya - a room in which believers performed aptez before prayer and gathered to talk. Travelers and pilgrims from other places could stay in this part of the mosque. The building has now lost its previous functions. According to a legend, an older mosque existed on this place.
The turbe is visited by the people form Doborsko village, which is located 5 km south of Chal village. Peole lit candles on the grave of the saint.
